Merritt Lutz loves his work in the financial services industry, which allows him to invest in companies and help them become great. He also focuses on investing—in people—outside his successful career.
Lutz, who earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising and a master’s in social science from Michigan State, came to MSU with scholarship support to fulfill his dream of playing with the Spartan Marching Band drumline. Today, he helps students achieve their dreams by giving to the MSU College of Music. He established the Spartan Championship Drums Endowment to fund travel for drumline competitions.
Helping the next generation is important to Lutz and his wife, who are the parents of a son with autism. They are committed to supporting organizations and research focused on the disorder. Lutz, who met his wife at MSU, credits his alma mater for his personal and professional success and satisfaction.
“I would say Michigan State had everything to do with any success I have now and a lot of my happiness,” says Lutz. “It changed my life.”
